Cinderella

Cinderella is a painting that I created using water colours and acrylic paint. I used acrylic paint to help make the colours pop brighter. The tonal value in her dress is a mixture of blues, purples and whites. I used large long brush strokes to create her dress and short brush strokes to paint her hair. The background is a light gold water colour wash that sets the mood for the picture.

Society has shown Cinderella as the rebellious girl who has gone against the rules and needs to get home in time before she gets caught because she snuck out to a party or in Cinderella's case, a ball.  Her blonde hair flows as though Cinderella was in the Disney movie when the clock strikes twelve and she has to get home.

I created this painting for our school's In The Spotlight Fashion Show. I was a volunteer and helped all semester in helping this happen. I helped in creating many artworks and by making flowers out of tissue paper for our flower wall and assisted in creating butterflies. The night of the Fashion Show, we had a silent auction and my art was in it! I also helped in painting the model that was sitting in front of the flower wall at the show. In helping to create this successful event, I have learned more about time management and about painting on a human figure.

A Butterfly Garden

I had decided to create this as an idea for the outdoor classroom mural at my school. I used the idea of butterflies and a female figure as my idea when creating this. I took ideas from a picture I found on google as my help when I drew this. I designed different butterfly wings and coloured them different, bright colours that hopefully will brighten our school and make everyone a bit happier each day. These colours are warm happy colours. I also used water colour paint to have the butterflies look like the colour from their wings are dripping. It gives it a beautiful outlook which I liked.

Society plays an impact on this drawing as people may see this as inappropriate  for a catholic school to have a girl's back bare as it may seem too "revealing" but it isn't that bad as it is just her back and nothing else is being revealed. However, I respect the school rules; I am more than excited and proud of the mural that is to be created soon!

We have gotten a yes from the VPs and hopefully the mural will be in progress soon. This way when I come and visit in the next couple of years I will see the beautiful mural that my  grade 12 art class has created. I am lucky to have a part of my design be apart of the mural. I also created a mural last year in my grade 11 design class which is located at the front of the school. It took a lot of time and effort but in the end, we are all glad with the outcome and the teamwork we did in creating it.

Fashionista

I created this painting of a girl in a ballgown using different watercolours and large paint brushes in creating this image. I used a gold tone watercolour as my background. I used different tonal values in painting the background as thought it gives it an effect of the spotlight being on the girl.

This is related to society because this painting was also used to be put in our school's In The Spotlight Fashion Show and it was in the silent auction. I also volunteered at the fashion show and painted a model who we had sit in front of a flower wall which I also assisted in creating for the fashion show. This was also used for my fashion show assignment in where I had to create an artist drawing of a fashionista. I used the rule of the nine circles/ ovals which I learned in class as my starter before I sketched out her body parts in portion.

Dream House

Modern Architecture is a movement that began in 20th century and has changed the way of living and architecture around us. I was inspired to created a modern architecture sketch with glass windows as I find those simply beautiful and famous in our society. I used pencil crayons to sketch out and colour my dream house. I used different shapes in creating my design. Most of it consisted of  a rectangular shape, however homes now a days have different shapes and different designs that attract people to these homes.

Modern homes now days consist of mostly windows so you can look out into the beautiful view around you. Society impacts us as we all want to live the same ways and to live our lives the same with latest phones, newest clothes and the top best cars.  Also it took time in creating our school's outdoor classroom. Many different thoughts and sketches definitely went in before the idea of the outdoor classroom went through.

Egg This!

Photo realism began in the late 1960s to the early 1970s. Photo realism was created to make pictures look real as to capture the realism affect in motion. I used shading and different colour tones to create my realism photo.

Safari Scenery

Art of Africa began in Africa to recreate and show the rituals and culture of the African people. I decided to draw a photo of the sunset with giraffes that make me think of Africa and how beautiful it must be. I used different colours and blended to make it look more realistic as if it was the the sky. I used a tonal value of different colours to define the sky as it appears to be a sunrise.

This relates to society as it reminds me of the disney movie, The Lion King. That movie was my childhood movie and it had a lot of wildlife and the scenery was completely beautiful. I loved how all the colours clashed together and how there was many different animals.

Ou La LaAa

Modern Canadian Art is also know as having to do with paintings, printmaking and photography. This movement began years ago and till today as it continues to strengthen the Canadian art representing the country and native culture. This is a photo I took in Montreal earlier this year that represents Modern Canadian Art to me. I made to focus the camera on a particular object and have the background around it make it pop and I loved how everything in the photo collaborated together. Every time I look at this photo I remember that day and how beautiful the scenery in Montreal Quebec was. The light was not too bright, not blurry and focused for a pretty good photo.

Contemporary Art was a movement that began in the 1970s and is still present today. This movement uses different modern icons that affect our society to make one great piece. My painting's icons are of Instagram and Cinderella but in a modern twist. Also, her Instagram profile picture is of lipstick. I used water colour and acrylic paint to create this piece.

This relates to how society uses Instagram now a days and post a lot of selfies. It also relates to disney and the Cinderella princess. I used modern day things in creating this picture to relate to society and our modern day life.

Celeb Love

Dadaism is a movement that was created in 1916. This art movement was to mock other famous art pieces. My art was to do with society and a famous musical artist. I used Harry styles as my famous artist and mocked it by using an emoji. Harry Styles is from the famous pop british band One Direction. Him along with his bandmates, Louis, Niall and Liaam have sold over 5 albums in 5 years! And since Harry is my celebrity crush I used the heart eyes emoji to mock this photo.

This relates to society since Harry styles is a huge icon for teenagers and young ladies who love him for his looks and his angelic voice. At the moment, One Direction are on break and their fans are not certain if these four boys will return again after a year and a half or not. Hopefully they do so since they inspire a lot of young people to follow their dreams.

Half of Me

Abstract expressionism began in the 1940s and 1950s. This art movement has to do with brush strokes and an impression left from the painting. I painted a girl using many different colours and brush strokes to create an impression of fierce and anger expressed on the girl's face. Soft long brush strokes are used to create her colourful hair and sharp short brushes used to create her face.

This relates to society as though not everyone you meet shows you their true colours and as you come to know them you see different sides to them that you never have seen. People are not always who they seem to be in life and this painting shows me that they have different colours thus is the reason why I used different colours in creating this painting.

Wide Eyed

Surrealism began in the early 1920s and it is best known for its visual artworks and drawings. A famous artist during this time was Sigmund Freud. This is my all time favourite! I love how the eye truly looks real with the shading and drawings within the eye. I used different types of shading pencils to create this art work and I also used a smudge stick to add shading in some certain parts. This art work is relatable to society and how we need to keep our eyes open for the future and how we shouldn't always be closed minded on what people say. We should always be open to new things that might actually be a great thing.

A Flower Through The Dark

Post Impression is an art movement that began in 1910 and a famous artist during this movement was Vincent Van Gogh. One of his famous art paintings was "Starry Night". I used a sharpie to create my background and used pencil crayons to colour in the flower. My drawing represents an ugly duckling and how its unseen at first since its a small seed but once it grows it becomes a beautiful swam or a flower in the case.

This relates to the movie the Ugly Duckling that I watched when I was little. This shows that you should never judge someone or call them ugly because you do not know how they may truly look or how great their personality may be! Thus you should never judge a book by its cover or ni this case, a flower by its steam.

Out Of The Woods

Native American Art is an art work that was created thousands of years ago. The native art works are really creative to me since these are art pieces that many Native people created years ago and some  people continue  to do to this day. I coloured a picture of a forest with the owl's face as it is looking out into the snow covered forestry ground. It reminds me of society and how we all look at each other and judge one another instead of looking at ourselves and how no one is perfect and we shouldn't judge each other.

Tree of Life

Art Of Mexico is an art movement that began in 1500 BCE to 1500 CE and a few artists that were known during this era were Diego Rivera,  José Clemente Orozco, and Fernando Leal.  I used pencil crayons to create this colourful tree. I like the different colours that are on the tree as they represent colours that make me think of Mexico and the festivals there.

Cotton Candy Clouds

This is a beautiful photo of a sunrise my cousin took one morning. It is very calming to me and it is beautiful. The clouds remind me of cotton candy because of how soft they look and the colours that are shown through them. This photo is just speechless to me and I wish I was there to witness this beautiful sunrise. This art piece is considered a photograph. Photography is an art movement that began in between the 19th and 20th century.

Illusions, this usually causes your eyes to play games tricking you to see things weirdly. This is  considered an art movement in time called, "Op Art". Op Art began in the 1960s and a father of this art is Victor Vasarely. I drew my own vision of op art but it may not be as illusional as all the other famous art works. I used a ruler and broke up my square into 4 triangles then drew lines within. I then coloured every other line black to create an illusion effect!

A Bright Future!

Futurism is a movement that originated in Italy in the early 20th century. It emphasized speed, technology, youth, and violence, and objects such as the car, the aeroplane, and the industrial city. My drawing was to help illustrate a bright future of how our highways will be up high like our buildings making it easier for people to transport to different places. I used bright colours in hopes to show how  our future is bright as long as we make it that way. It is our choice to decide how our future may turn out.

My inspiration was this photo and I really liked the road idea so I used that to illustrate my own drawing.

Splash

A painted this colourful dotted painting but dotting my paper with different colour of dots. Splash into the world and realize that our world is full of different colours we only need to open our eyes to see the true beauty this world of colours has to offer. Colour field is an art movement that was created during the 1940s and the 1950s.

Beauty Hurts

This is one of my favourite paints that I have created. I used acrylic paint and pencil crayon for her skin. This took me quite some time to complete but I believe that I have done a really good job. This image is of a girl who i crying. Her tears can be interrupted in many different ways; tears of joy, sadness, guilt, or anger. However, to me her tears are that no matter how hard she may try, she will never be good enough.

This is related to society today as most girls struggle with beauty and trying to make themselves look like the girls on the cover of magazines and how they don't look like that. Everyone is created unique and everyone is beautiful, you don't need to look like the girls to the magazines to be that.

This art movement is Pop Art and it was created during the mid and late 1950s. One of the famous artists during this time was Eduardo Paolozzi.

I was inspired to paint this by a similar photo however I changed a few colours to make it my own in a way.

Tree of Love

I painted this picture and thought of a meaning behind such a simple painting. LOVE. The branches of this tree end up holding a heart. We need to feel love and to love others for our hearts to grow in love. Our hearts are like trees, without water it isn't able to grow and will die.  This art was created using acrylic paint and i would dab my paint brush to give it a certain effect.

The art movement related to this painting is
"Expressionism", originating in Germany at the beginning of the 20th century.

My inspiration that I had copied, was this photo.

Shape Life

Different shapes and different colours are used to produce this artwork. This artwork shows that their are may ways to go with life, and different shapes that can shape our lives to make us the people we grow to be. I had cut and pasted these shapes to create my own artwork of an art movement that was created in around 1913.  This art movement was called "Suprematism" and the founder of this movement was Kazimir Malevich. Suprematism is an art movement which focuses on basic geometric forms, such as circles, squares, lines, and rectangles, painted in a limited range of colors.

Circle This

This is one of my favourite drawings. I have to admit, it took me about 3 WHOLE HOURS! I wanted to give up, but now that its done, I am glad I didn't give up! I drew the flower first with a pencil then traced it with a black sharpie and worked my way through in making the different designs within the flower and then I added the different sized circles to give it that abstract look.

I used this photo as my inspiration to create my own abstract drawing.

Full of Love

The smallest things sometimes have the biggest meanings. I painted a red heart and even though it may not have any meaning, it actually has a huge meaning. This painting symbolizes that even though someone may have a small heart, it doesn't mean that they can love with all of it and much more. Relating this to my favourite show, Grey's Anatomy; there was a patient who had a weak heart, but he loved this one lady doctor so much. He would compliment her and flirt with her whenever possible. He was in love with her even though he was in the hospital for a heart transplant.

This art is called "Minimalism" and it was created in the 1960s and it would show a minimal of anything, giving it that simple yet small image as in minimalism!

A Bright Path Ahead

I used dark colours such as black, white and a bit of grey to make a dark sense for my painting. My painting is a mixture of both water colours and acrylic paint. This relates to society; as in time of struggle, everyone should believe that there is a peak of light in your path that will light up your path to guide you out of this darkness. We just need to keep an open mind and believe that there will always be some good even in bad times.

This photo is from the artistic movement “Romanticism”. Romanticism was a dark time which was during the end of the 18th century and a famous artist during that time was William Blake. He was born on November 28, 1757 and died on August 12, 1827.

I was inspired by this painting, it showed me the colours related to romanticism and I decided to paint something similar.

Cube Petals

I had cut and glued many different colours of paper to construct this cubism like photo. I had created a picture of a flower using cut out paper in squares to create this art.

This relates to me as my mom loves flowers and loves gardening and she enjoys looking at the different colours of flowers in the summer at the garden centres. This also relates to modern society where women usually expect roses on special occasions and how it shows a nice gesture from their loved one.

Cubism is an art movement that was created in the early 20th century and a famous artist during this time was Pablo Picasso. The main focus in this movement was to focus on shapes that make up the artwork.

I was inspired by this photo to create my own similar photo except it created a flower and called it "A Blossom of Petals."

Me, Myself and I

This is a self portrait of myself that I have sketched out and shaded. With using different tones and hard/soft pencils I was able to compose a self portrait of myself. I was had a difficult time in drawing at first as I couldn’t tell how it resembled me. I am the type of person where if it doesn't look right, I will have to redo it until I am satisfied. I was not satisfied. So I kept on erasing and sketching over and over until it started to compose into the photo I was trying to resemble.

My inspiration was myself since this is a self portrait. Also, I feel that my drawing is relatable since there are many self portrait artists who can portray wonderful artworks of other people and it is inspiring on how creative they are to sketch such beautiful portraits.

Social issues that relate to my self portrait is that everyone is scared on how they may appear to others and are usually self conscious about their appearance which is usually a problem in our society. People think they have the right to judge others but we are all made different yet unique in God’s eyes, all being brothers and sisters to each other. We should all love ourself and each other. So in conclusion, this is me and I love my self portrait!

This is related to the artistic movement called, "Realism". The artists during this time, painted portraits and body images as though they wanted to represent and show what was real and this movement was during the early 19th century.

Conceptual Art

This unusual movement began in the 1960s and impacted art in all forms. Marcel Duchamp, a French artist, paved the way for other conceptual painters and photographers by providing examples and new ideas of already made objects and combining them together. Duchamp's most famous piece "The Fountain" (1917), was a standard urinal-basin that he tried to make reflect a type of fountain. Later on in 1969, Joseph Kosuth acknowledged in his essay Duchamp's relevance and theoretical importance of future conceptual artists:

Art after Philosophy - J. Kosuth

"All art (after Duchamp) is conceptual (in nature) because art only exists conceptually".

All artists in this movement meshed together everyday objects to create new ones, even if the new item did not exist in reality. The concepts behind each idea all emphasized Duchamp's values and reduced the material presence within their works. Some other conceptual pieces include:

Neo-Classicism Art

In 1789, France was on the brink of its first revolution and the Neoclassicists wanted to express a rationality and seriousness that was fitting for their time. Neo-Classicism began in  the Mid-18th Century to Early-19th Century. Neoclassicists looked back to the French painter Nicolas Poussin for their inspiration. Neo-classicism was a child of the Age of Reason, when philosophers believed that we would be able to control our destinies by learning from and following the laws of nature. Therefore, Neoclassicism continued the connection to the Classical tradition; and “neo” means “new,” or in the case of art, an existing style reiterated with a new twist. A few neo-classicist artists were Jean- Francois de Troy, Giovanni Paolo Pannini, Jacques-Louis David and Jean Restate. The Neo-classicists, such as Jacques-Louis David, preferred the well-delineated form—clear drawing and modelling (shading). Drawing was considered more important than painting. The Neoclassical surface had to look perfectly smooth—no evidence of brush-strokes should be discernible to the naked eye. Artists like David supported the rebels through an art that asked for clear-headed thinking, self-sacrifice to the State and an austerity reminiscent of Republican Rome. Neoclassicism is characterized by clarity of form, sober colours, shallow space, strong horizontal and verticals that render that subject matter timeless.
