Cinderella

Cinderella is a painting that I created using water colours and acrylic paint. I used acrylic paint to help make the colours pop brighter. The tonal value in her dress is a mixture of blues, purples and whites. I used large long brush strokes to create her dress and short brush strokes to paint her hair. The background is a light gold water colour wash that sets the mood for the picture.

Society has shown Cinderella as the rebellious girl who has gone against the rules and needs to get home in time before she gets caught because she snuck out to a party or in Cinderella's case, a ball.  Her blonde hair flows as though Cinderella was in the Disney movie when the clock strikes twelve and she has to get home.

I created this painting for our school's In The Spotlight Fashion Show. I was a volunteer and helped all semester in helping this happen. I helped in creating many artworks and by making flowers out of tissue paper for our flower wall and assisted in creating butterflies. The night of the Fashion Show, we had a silent auction and my art was in it! I also helped in painting the model that was sitting in front of the flower wall at the show. In helping to create this successful event, I have learned more about time management and about painting on a human figure.

A Butterfly Garden

I had decided to create this as an idea for the outdoor classroom mural at my school. I used the idea of butterflies and a female figure as my idea when creating this. I took ideas from a picture I found on google as my help when I drew this. I designed different butterfly wings and coloured them different, bright colours that hopefully will brighten our school and make everyone a bit happier each day. These colours are warm happy colours. I also used water colour paint to have the butterflies look like the colour from their wings are dripping. It gives it a beautiful outlook which I liked.

Society plays an impact on this drawing as people may see this as inappropriate  for a catholic school to have a girl's back bare as it may seem too "revealing" but it isn't that bad as it is just her back and nothing else is being revealed. However, I respect the school rules; I am more than excited and proud of the mural that is to be created soon!

We have gotten a yes from the VPs and hopefully the mural will be in progress soon. This way when I come and visit in the next couple of years I will see the beautiful mural that my  grade 12 art class has created. I am lucky to have a part of my design be apart of the mural. I also created a mural last year in my grade 11 design class which is located at the front of the school. It took a lot of time and effort but in the end, we are all glad with the outcome and the teamwork we did in creating it.

Fashionista

I created this painting of a girl in a ballgown using different watercolours and large paint brushes in creating this image. I used a gold tone watercolour as my background. I used different tonal values in painting the background as thought it gives it an effect of the spotlight being on the girl.

This is related to society because this painting was also used to be put in our school's In The Spotlight Fashion Show and it was in the silent auction. I also volunteered at the fashion show and painted a model who we had sit in front of a flower wall which I also assisted in creating for the fashion show. This was also used for my fashion show assignment in where I had to create an artist drawing of a fashionista. I used the rule of the nine circles/ ovals which I learned in class as my starter before I sketched out her body parts in portion.

Dream House

Modern Architecture is a movement that began in 20th century and has changed the way of living and architecture around us. I was inspired to created a modern architecture sketch with glass windows as I find those simply beautiful and famous in our society. I used pencil crayons to sketch out and colour my dream house. I used different shapes in creating my design. Most of it consisted of  a rectangular shape, however homes now a days have different shapes and different designs that attract people to these homes.

Modern homes now days consist of mostly windows so you can look out into the beautiful view around you. Society impacts us as we all want to live the same ways and to live our lives the same with latest phones, newest clothes and the top best cars.  Also it took time in creating our school's outdoor classroom. Many different thoughts and sketches definitely went in before the idea of the outdoor classroom went through.

Egg This!

Photo realism began in the late 1960s to the early 1970s. Photo realism was created to make pictures look real as to capture the realism affect in motion. I used shading and different colour tones to create my realism photo.

Safari Scenery

Art of Africa began in Africa to recreate and show the rituals and culture of the African people. I decided to draw a photo of the sunset with giraffes that make me think of Africa and how beautiful it must be. I used different colours and blended to make it look more realistic as if it was the the sky. I used a tonal value of different colours to define the sky as it appears to be a sunrise.

This relates to society as it reminds me of the disney movie, The Lion King. That movie was my childhood movie and it had a lot of wildlife and the scenery was completely beautiful. I loved how all the colours clashed together and how there was many different animals.

Ou La LaAa

Modern Canadian Art is also know as having to do with paintings, printmaking and photography. This movement began years ago and till today as it continues to strengthen the Canadian art representing the country and native culture. This is a photo I took in Montreal earlier this year that represents Modern Canadian Art to me. I made to focus the camera on a particular object and have the background around it make it pop and I loved how everything in the photo collaborated together. Every time I look at this photo I remember that day and how beautiful the scenery in Montreal Quebec was. The light was not too bright, not blurry and focused for a pretty good photo.
